Are you passionate about racial and intersectional justice? Experienced in supporting grassroots movements and challenging civic space securitization? This could be your next bold step.
The Fund for Global Human Rights (FGHR) is seeking a Consultant Coordinator to lead a groundbreaking, two-year initiative (October 2025 – June 2027) focused on strengthening racial and intersectional justice movements that are resisting the growing securitization of civic space.
This consultancy offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of human rights, grassroots organizing, and innovative grantmaking. The ideal candidate will collaborate directly with movement leaders, activists, and funders to build a more equitable and just global civic space.
About the Initiative
Across the globe, grassroots movements—particularly those led by Black, Indigenous, migrant, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized communities—are facing heightened repression. Governments and institutions are increasingly framing these movements as security threats, using surveillance, policing, and criminalization to shrink civic space.
This initiative responds to that urgent reality. The Fund seeks to:
- Support grassroots organizing confronting the securitization of civic space.
- Coordinate flexible grantmaking to ensure that funding is accessible, responsive, and rooted in movement needs.
- Amplify movement insights to shift how funders and the broader field understand and address the intersection of justice and security.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a strategic, values-driven leader with both lived and professional experience in racial and intersectional justice work. You may be an activist, organizer, grantmaker, or practitioner who brings deep connection to the issues—and to the people most impacted by them.
Ideal candidates will have:
- A strong understanding of human rights and racial/intersectional justice movements, particularly those resisting securitization.
- Direct experience with social movement organizing, community care practices, and movement resilience.
- Knowledge of grantmaking dynamics, with an emphasis on participatory, trust-based, or grassroots-led approaches.
- Skills in facilitation and participatory design, including co-creating spaces with diverse movement actors.
- A commitment to activist well-being and long-term sustainability of justice movements.
This is a global call—we welcome applications from all regions and backgrounds, particularly from individuals rooted in the Global South and from historically marginalized communities.
Role Responsibilities
As the Consultant Coordinator, you will:
- Design and guide the development of the initiative in close collaboration with the Fund’s staff and key partners.
- Facilitate participatory processes to identify funding priorities and shape grantmaking strategies.
- Coordinate and support grantee partners, ensuring alignment with movement needs and fostering shared learning.
- Document and elevate movement insights, producing materials to inform funder strategies and field-wide practices.
- Collaborate with funders and networks, helping shift narratives and investments toward justice-based responses to civic space threats.
