The United States Mission in Nigeria has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest who was abducted and killed in Kaduna State.
In a statement, the US Mission described the killing as “brutal and senseless” and extended heartfelt condolences to the late priest’s family, congregation, and community.
“The US Mission is distressed by the brutal and senseless killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, congregation of the family and community of the father”.Â
Reverend Father Okechukwu was the pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area. His death was confirmed by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan on Wednesday.
The US Mission urged Nigerian authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
