RIVERS STATE BOILS: Wike Asserts Fubara’s Impeachment Justifiable Amid Political Turmoil

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, says that if his estranged successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is found to be deficient, he should be impeached.

He claimed that impeaching Fubara would not be a crime and that politics is pointless.

Speaking in a live media chat on Wednesday, Wike bemoaned the fact that “three lawmakers,” a code word for Fubara-aligned members of the state Assembly, could enact laws.

“Politics is not play,” he declared. Let them impeach him if he has committed an impeachable offense. “It’s not a crime,” Wike declared.

“I cannot believe that in this country, we are now at the point where Nigerians are talking about where three members of the House will sit and make a law, and they are talking about going to the Supreme Court. Do we need to go to work.”

Since a Supreme Court decision invalidated the state’s October 2024 local government election and acknowledged 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, Rivers’ political crisis has taken on a new dimension.

Wike said elected officials shouldn’t be viewed as inferiors and praised those who opposed illegality.

“Speakers and Assembly members are not our children; they were elected; they are not your boys or your girls. You sit with them and play with them. I travelled with my Speakers, and I created relationships. It’s not a master-servant thing,” he said.

The former governor recalled how Ferdinand Alabararba, an elder statesman who advocated for the appointment of an Ijaw governor, was eventually treated disrespectfully by the individual he supported.

This elder statesman nearly broke down in tears. After insulting the elder statesman, the boy is no longer able to turn to him for support. These individuals are typically referred to as family members. Ignore me,” Wike continued.
