On Monday, citizens of Plateau‘s capital, Jos, demonstrated in the streets against the state’s rising rate of kidnappings and murders.

The demonstration was led by Christian leaders, including the Plateau chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Polycarp Lubo.

Many commuters were left trapped by the traffic at the end of the march, which started near the Fwavwei Junction community road.

According to reports, the protesters carried placards with the following inscriptions: ‘That they do not die in vain’, ‘We walk for peace’, Stop the killings’, ‘Stop the bloodshed’, ‘Every life matters’, and ‘Let Plateau live’.

The event follows two weeks of unrelenting attacks in Plateau State, when over 100 persons were killed in the LGAs of Bokkos and Bassa.

Yakubu Pam, the chairman of the Plateau CAN faction, addressed the crisis and stated that it was time for all parties involved—including community-based organizations, security personnel, religious leaders, and traditional rulers—to come together to combat the decades-long cycle of violence plaguing the state.
