Operation Zenda, a joint security taskforce of the Benue State Police Command, has killed eleven bandits who were thought to be armed herders.

However, it was learned that during the gunfight, the command tragically lost one of its officers, Inspector Terfa Barnabas Anyiatse.

Operation Zenda agents reportedly engaged the suspects in a gunfight after responding to a distress call at a community that borders the state’s Buruku and Ushongo local government areas.

A community source claims that the incident happened between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Eleven members of the bandits, who were thought to be armed herders, were reported killed, and one command officer was also reported killed.

According to reports, the bodies—including the police officer’s—were placed in an undisclosed morgue in the state capital of Makurdi.

CSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Command, confirmed the incident and said she would provide more information later.
