Six people were killed and three injured when suspected herdsmen attacked the community of Farin Dutse in Nasarawa State’s Nasarawa Local Government Area.
In addition to burning down some homes, the attackers who broke into the neighborhood on Monday, March 10, 2025, forced many residents to flee their homes.
According to a resident who only gave their name, Zaka, who verified the incident, they were attacked at approximately three in the morning on Monday, March 10.
“The fight started yesterday (Sunday) over a Mango tree which a Fulani herdsman was cutting down for his cows. The residents of the community, however, approached him to stop, but he got angry after a heated argument and stabbed one person to d3ath,” the source said.
“So, on Monday morning, he mobilized his kinsmen to invade the community while we were deep in sleep. Many have been k!lled and houses burnt,” he said.
He disclosed that after the killing on Sunday, the community’s citizens organized, went to the Fulani huts, and set them on fire in retaliation.
Six people were killed in the attack, according to a statement released on Tuesday by SP Ramhan Nansel, the spokeswoman for the Nasarawa State Police Command.
Nansel revealed that a pregnant woman named Azumi Allah Gaba perished when a nearby Ruga settlement was set on fire by an enraged mob on a vengeance mission over the k!lling.
According to the PPRO, a suspect named Sani Allah Gaba tragically killed one Friday Danladi Jike after a confrontation between some young people and a herder in the bush began on Sunday, March 9.
The police spokesperson assured locals of the command’s dedication to guaranteeing everyone’s safety and disclosed that two suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the regrettable incident.
“Upon receiving this report, the commissioner of police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, swiftly deployed mobile police operatives to the scene, where they encountered a violent mob attempting to k!ll one Isa Alhaji. The victim was successfully rescued and taken to General Hospital, Nasarawa. The situation was promptly brought under control,” the PPRO stated.
“However, in the course of the intervention, the mob vandalized police patrol vehicle and later set fire to a nearby Ruga settlement where the suspect, Sani, resided. This led to the unfortunate death of one Azumi Allah Gaba and her unborn child.
“To restore peace, a stakeholders meeting was held with leaders from both communities. Consequently, two suspects; Usman Magaji, alongside one Hon. Ibrahim Usman Kaka, who participated during the attack on the police and the attempted k!lling of the rescued victim, have been arrested for further investigation.
“Subsequently, on March 10, 2025, at about 0647 hrs, the District Head of Kurudu placed a distress call reporting an attack on Farin Dutse village by suspected herders, who set houses ablaze.
“A swift response team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nasarawa was deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the assailants were dislodged.
“During the operation, three injured victims—Samaniya Wa’azu, Vincent Ezekiel, and Johnson Maikasuwa—were rescued and taken to a medical center for treatment.
“Tragically, six corpses were recovered and identified as Simeon Madaki, Ayawu Senior, Sunday Wa’azu, Vincent Sunday, Taimako Senior, and Filibus Jatau Mai’anguwa. Some houses, shops, motorcycles, and a car were also vandalized during the attack.
“To ensure law and order, the area has been reinforced with personnel from the Mobile Police of 69 PMF Toto, alongside other police operatives and the military, who are currently patrolling the vicinity.”
