While on site at the Ilu-Abo axis in the state’s Akure North Local Council Area, the surveyors were ambushed by gunmen who were hiding in the bush.
After pleading with some of the victims’ families, the kidnappers lowered their ransom demand from N100 million to N50 million.
On Tuesday, March 11, women demonstrated against the ongoing kidnappings and k!llings in Akure, the state capital.
To air their complaints, they assembled in the state capital at the home of High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, the Ejeminkin of Akure.
The demonstrators, who were primarily women, demanded that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa act swiftly and forcefully to curb the activities of kidnappers, killer herdsmen, and other criminals who have infiltrated the state’s communities as they marched from Ijemikin to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure.
Speaking on the governor’s behalf, Bola Taiwo, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, criticized the nine abducted surveyors for visiting the location without security personnel in response to the women who were protesting, according to the Guardian.
Taiwo claimed that insiders were responsible for the kidnapping and accused the surveyors of taking large sums of money from their clients without using the funds for their security.
