A woman named Sharon Auma was taken into custody by police in Awasi, Kisumu County, Kenya, after she uploaded a picture of herself on WhatsApp, displaying a Canik pistol and threatening to break up with any man who dared to do so.

For unlawful firearm possession, Sharon and her friend Nancy Atieno Obura were taken into custody by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and their counterparts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyando.

“The arrest follows a report received of Sharon Auma, who decided to spice up her WhatsApp status, posting a photo of herself brandishing a pistol while ominously warning that any man who dared dump her would face severe consequences,” police said.

Detectives swiftly responded to the alarming post and captured Sharon in Awasi town.

During questioning, Sharon disclosed that the weapon was found in her friend and co-accused Nancy Atieno Obura’s rented two-bedroom home.

During a later search of the house, the Canik pistol was found deftly hidden in clothing—wrapped in a basin beneath the

bed—along with a magazine that is empty.

Officers also found a phony motorcycle license plate with the number KMGG 805M on it.

Both suspects are currently being processed while they wait to be arraigned.

To catch more people connected to the gun’s possession, authorities are still looking for new leads.
