Position Overview
Title: Associate Social Media Officer

Reports to: Senior Social Media Officer
ACLED is seeking a talented and motivated Associate Social Media Officer to join its dynamic External Affairs team. This is an entry-level, fully remote role ideal for a creative communicator passionate about digital storytelling, global affairs, and human rights. The selected candidate will work closely with the Senior Social Media Officer to bring complex data and conflict analysis to life across ACLED’s social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Scheduling
- Support the implementation of ACLED’s social media strategy across platforms including LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Write engaging copy and schedule regular posts that promote ACLED’s research, events, and findings.
Visual & Multimedia Design
- Create compelling digital assets such as infographics, GIFs, short-form videos, and graphics using Canva or similar tools.
- Ensure all content aligns with ACLED’s brand voice and visual guidelines.
Analytics & Reporting
- Assist in tracking social media performance metrics (engagement, reach, impressions).
- Compile analytics for internal review and inform strategy adjustments.
Social Listening & Engagement
- Monitor social media conversations related to ACLED’s areas of work.
- Help identify trends, potential influencers, and opportunities to expand reach.
- Support community management by responding to comments and direct messages.
Digital Library & Admin Support
- Maintain the organization’s digital asset repository on Google Drive and Google Photos.
- Provide administrative and ad hoc support to the Senior Social Media Officer and wider External Affairs team.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a relevant social science field.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in social media management or digital communications.
- Proven ability to create and manage content for multiple platforms.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Comfort working independently in a remote setting with a flexible schedule.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- English fluency required; Arabic or French proficiency is a strong asset.
- Willingness to work core hours aligned with the European time zone.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Canva or similar content creation tools.
- Experience working with data or on issues such as political violence, peacebuilding, or foreign affairs.
- Understanding of analytics tools and ability to interpret engagement data.
- Knowledge of current trends in video content, especially on Instagram and YouTube.
