According to reports, gunmen broke into a prayer gathering at a secluded mountain location in the Egbola region, along Agbaja Road in the Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, and took an unknown number of worshippers hostage.

According to reports, the incident happened on Friday during a nightly vigil on the mountain.

When state vigilante service members learned of the incident, they reportedly mobilized to the scene, engaged the gunmen in a gunfight, and saved a woman named Mary Adams Gure.

The source claims that their assailants broke into the prayer area, shot intermittently to frighten the congregation, and then dragged them violently into the bush.

In the midst of the chaos, the woman who was saved was reported to have escaped.

“The vigilantes  were  mobilized quickly  in response to the attack; and in the process, Gure was rescued . A search-and-rescue operation is ongoing to locate the remaining abducted faithful.

“Gure managed to escape and later found safety, thanks to the swift intervention of local vigilante members who were alerted and got to the scene of the incident on time,” the vigilante source said.

Calls and messages regarding the incident were not answered by ASP William Aya, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
