Position Overview
Freedom House seeks a Digital Communications Officer to support and enhance its digital communications strategy. This role will drive content development and management for the organization’s website and email platforms, support the launch of key research and advocacy campaigns, and collaborate across departments to ensure consistent and compelling public engagement.
Reporting to the Public Relations Director, the Officer will play a key role in planning, execution, and performance tracking across multiple digital channels. This position is union-eligible under the organization’s collective bargaining agreement.
Key Responsibilities
Website Management
- Maintain and update website content including reports, blogs, events, and news in accordance with editorial calendars.
- Serve as liaison with external web development vendors for backend updates and projects.
- Track and report website analytics weekly using Google Analytics to inform content strategy.
- Manage the organization’s media library, coordinating visual asset selection and licensing.
Email Marketing
- Develop and distribute email campaigns and newsletters via Pardot aligned with organizational goals and campaigns.
- Monitor email performance, adjusting content and strategies to improve engagement and deliverability.
- Maintain clean and accurate contact lists, segmenting audiences for targeted outreach.
- Support rapid-response emails, event invites, press releases, and advocacy messaging.
Cross-Platform Support
- Coordinate content rollouts for major publications, integrating web, social, and design elements.
- Contribute to broader communications and marketing initiatives, offering surge capacity during peak times.
- Serve as a backup for media relations and social media content drafting when needed.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field required.
- Background in international relations or public policy is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of communications experience, preferably in the nonprofit, public policy, or agency sectors.
- Demonstrated experience with website content management and SEO best practices.
- At least 3 years of work in democracy, human rights, or civil society sectors is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in WordPress, Drupal, or similar CMS platforms.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English.
- Experience using analytics tools, CRM systems (e.g., Pardot), and email marketing platforms.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skills in basic graphic design, photo editing, or video editing are a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $73,000 – $90,000 annually (commensurate with experience).

Working Conditions
