The federal government has declared that Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.), the recently appointed administrator, will receive the financial allocation for Rivers State.
Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency at the State House in Abuja, saying that it was required to keep the state from collapsing politically.
Additionally, Fagbemi denied allegations that Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was involved in the crisis that resulted in the declaration of emergency.
Citing political instability, constitutional violations, and security concerns, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and every elected member of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a six-month initial term on Tuesday.
Ibas was named the state’s administrator by the president, who also promised that Rivers State’s judicial branch would continue to function and that the state government would be supervised by the federal government until things returned to normal.
