In light of the current wave of murders in Plateau, Benue, and other northern states, former senator from Kaduna Central Shehu Sani has supported former defense minister Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd)’s demand for self-defense.
Over the weekend, Danjuma reiterated his prior demand for self-defense during a public gathering in Takum, Taraba State.
“It is now very clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families, and our lands before these criminals overrun the entire country,” the octogenarian stated.
However, on a Monday appearance on Channels TV, Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi criticized Danjuma’s demand for self-defense, cautioning that it was a “recipe for anarchy”.
However, Sani supported the former minister in an X post on Tuesday, stating that communities shouldn’t stand by and let themselves be massacred.
“Self Defence; TY Danjuma only repeated what many have earlier said.
“People shouldn’t just fold their arms and be slaughtered by bandits.
“What is then the meaning of the popular phrase that ‘security is a collective responsibility’?” Sani queried.
