Victor Osimhen Faces Fine and Match Ban After Controversial Outburst in Galatasaray’s Defeat

After Galatasaray’s 2-1 loss to Beşiktaş at the Tupras Stadium on Saturday, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is facing a hefty fine and possibly a match ban for his provocative behavior.

Tensions between the Galatasaray star and Beşiktaş supporters increased following the Istanbul Derby’s final whistle. Osimhen reacted rashly at that point because he was upset by the chants of the fans.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Fener Globa, Osimhen’s gesture toward the Beşiktaş supporters might be considered unsportsmanlike behavior under football rules.

Such provocative behavior usually carries a fine, warning, or match penalty from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) or UEFA. Since the incident happened after the game, the referee was unable to step in at the time, but video evidence allows for retroactive penalties.

Since this is regarded as a medium-level offense, Osimhen may be subject to a fine of €5,000 to €20,000 or a suspension of one to three games.

However, any fines could eventually give Napoli money to reinvest in their team because Osimhen is currently on loan from Napoli to Galatasaray.
